Center for Motion Analysis

The Center for Motion Analysis at Franciscan Children’s offers clinical gait analysis for children and young adults with movement problems.

Our laboratory features a unique computerized video capture system, ultra-sensitive force sensing devices, metabolic analyzers, and wireless EMG. Using this technology, our specialists can analyze each part of the body as it moves through space, and reveal sources of abnormalities in muscles, bones, joints, and nerves so that specific, targeted therapies can be individualized for each person’s needs.

Gait evaluation may be helpful in a variety of disorders, examples include:

  • Amputations
  • Arthritis
  • Brain injury
  • Cerebral Palsy
  • Joint replacement
  • Metabolic disorders
  • Nerve injuries
  • Orthopedic conditions
  • Polio
  • Spina Bifida
  • Spinal cord injury
  • Sports injuries
  • Stroke

Motion analysis can be used to improve sports and performing arts techniques, increase performance and efficiency, and prevent injury. Testing takes about an hour, and is both painless and comfortable.
