Franciscan Hospital for Children Announces $50,000 Grant to Enhance Early Childhood Program for Medically Complex Children

BOSTON (June 10, 2014) – Franciscan Hospital for Children is pleased to announce a $50,000 grant received from Children’s Investment Fund to benefit children with complex medical conditions receiving early childhood education and care at the Hyman Novack Medical Day Care.

This generous gift has transformed the Hyman Novack Medical Day Care, not only with an updated and contemporary look and feel, but also with two important new rooms. The first is a private room for children to take part in one-to-one therapeutic play with physical, occupational, speech and other therapists. The other is a space reserved for family and care team engagement.

“Our innovative program offers a creative choice for parents of children with special health care needs,” said John Nash, President and CEO of Franciscan Hospital for Children. “We offer a traditional day care environment, giving children an opportunity to interact with their peers, while having their individual educational, development, medical, and rehabilitative needs provided for.”

This grant has helped Franciscan to deliver on critical components of their program’s philosophy, including early intervention and therapy as well as family engagement. Every child served by the medical daycare receives early intervention services which promote growth and development during the critical early years of their lives. The medical daycare’s new family engagement room will cater to families, the most important partners in the care of children, by providing a private and safe space for families and caregivers to plan for the treatment and education of children.

“The Children’s Investment fund is pleased to work with Franciscan Hospital for Children to improve the program space,” said Mav Pardee, program manager for the Fund. “We know how important high quality facilities are in supporting the best level of care and programming for young children at all income levels. It was gratifying to see the children and adults in the space so we saw first-hand how well it works.”
