At Franciscan Hospital for Children, pet therapy is an important component of the care our patients receive.  These pets serve on a voluntary basis, helping children both in a traditional capacity (for those who require a service dog for vision impairments) but also in a behavioral health capacity. Therapy dogs are often valued members of the care team, providing the companionship that children who have been in trauma may respond to best.

To recognize their contribution to our mission and to honor our namesake, St. Francis of Assisi who was patron Saint of animals, we are hosting a Blessing of Service Animals on October 3rd.  Hosted by the Pastoral Care department, this free community event serves to affirm the value of service pets and those who work with them.
