Clinical Care Model

Nursing as well as Respiratory Therapy at Franciscan Children’s has adopted Jean Watson’s Theory of Human Caring on which we base our clinical practice. We feel this model closely aligns with the vision, mission and values of Franciscan Children’s.

Relationship Based Care is our method to deliver patient care and incorporates the following components:

1. Patient / Family Centered Care: The patient (whenever possible) and the family are considered to be central in the healthcare team.  The patient/family participates in identifying problems, setting goals, planning and implementing care.

2. A caring practice supports all human needs. Effective caring promotes health and individual and family growth and development.  A caring practice accepts the patient/family for who they are in a non-judgmental fashion and celebrates who they will become.

3. A caring environment offers development of potential while allowing the patient/ family to choose the best action for them self/themselves at a given point in time.

4. Members of the healthcare team do not function in a vacuum. Healthcare providers work with the other healthcare disciplines fostering collaboration and a high level of communication for the benefit of the patient and family.

Our Values

Compassion: We are thoughtful, caring and respectful to the children we serve and to each other, and we display this through considerate and comforting actions. We ask questions rather than make assumptions or pass judgement. We act with kindness and empathy and offer support and a willingness to help those around us.

Excellence: We strive to perform at the highest level in all aspects of our daily work, exceeding the expectations of the children we serve, their families and our colleagues. We explore opportunities to challenge the status quo through innovation and collaboration. We are relentless in our pursuit to continually bring improvements to the care we provide, enhance the child and family experience, and improve technology for greater efficiency. We take action to do what’s right and make decisions that are in the best interest of the children, their families and the organization, even when faced with adversity.

Positivity: As an organization, we are agile, meaning we strive to bring a positive, playful spirit with humility to work each day. We have a deep appreciation for the importance that a smile, encouragement and positive interactions have on the children we serve, their families and each other. We embrace challenges and seek opportunities that will help positively shape the future of the organization.
