The adaptive ice skating program is for children ages 5-21 years with special needs. The goals of the program are to teach children how to ice skate or to improve the skating skills of children who have some skating experience.
Physical or occupational therapists will supervise all skating sessions. Each child will be paired with a coach to help him/her while on the ice. Skating instructors will provide group lessons. Ice walkers, gait trainers, ice sleds, or ice trackers will be used to assist skaters as needed. We will measure skating skills at the beginning and end of the program and will ask parents to complete questionnaires about their child’s skills and about their perspective of the skating program.
